![]() ![]() ![]() Fortunately, we are told, there was one among them who chose to use sweet reason rather than just the sword in doing so, and he also had some other advantages, too. And so we are re-introduced to Roele, the brother of Haelyn, the new god of being a paladin. The new gods have made a pact not to interfere with the world directly, since if they fought again the results would be. well, they've seen what they would be, and apparently none of them want that, not even the two psychopaths who used to work for the god of evil. (Again, things that make you go hm.) So the only aid that Haelyn can give his little brother is advice in dreams. This will turn out to be pretty much enough, when combined with. Okay, here Caliedhe (the in-universe author of the document) basically goes on for a while about Roele's many virtues, and yet there's a few false notes here. One gets the feeling that the author, who is a person of fairly high integrity (as we'll see) is describing a historical figure whom he reveres, but is also well-aware that he was not exactly nearly as good of a person as he would like him to have been. Let's let Roele's actions speak for him, then.įirst off, Roele gathers up a few friends and sets out to conquer or rather unite the southwestern part of the continent, which he promptly names Anuire. Once this has been accomplished, and everything is set up in the feudal order that he likes, he sets out for the north, to conquer the forests of the Rjuven (or Rjurik as they've become known) and the fjords of the Brechts. ![]()
